eLab eXchange Correctly Predicts Top Two Consumer Electronics Online Retailers!

eLab eXchange members correctly predicted the top two most popular consumer electronics online retailers for December 2007, although they got the order reversed. Members predicted that Apple would be the most popular, followed by Dell, but according to Nielsen Online, the most popular was Dell, followed by Apple.

The most popular was judged in terms of the total number of unique customers for each retailer in the month of December 2007. Unique customers are defined as people who completed one or more retail purchases on the site.

Congratulations to the members of the eLab eXchange for accurately predicting the top two winners in this market!

I would have guessed Apple because of their continued innovation. It just seems like every few years they come up with some technology that just sky rockets in sales and makes Apple a household name all over again.

When one thinks about just the Apple Computers, Iphone, Ipod, Itunes, etc. which have all been mega hits, it is amazing how Apple just continues to have hit after hit. If they were movies stars they would have received many Oscars by now!

Looks like they really know what they are doing.

I am surprised that Dell outsold Apple for three reasons.
1) Apple has more products which I would have thought would be more appealing for Christmas shoppers as gifts.
2) Dell products can only be bought direct (as far as I am aware) whereas Apple products are available through a wide range of online retail outlets.
3) The judging was based upon “Unique customers” and not dollar value of purchase…Apple with more lesser priced products (ipods, iphones) I would have thought would give them an edge.

Dell is a great company - they sell to businesses all around the world. If I walk into almost any business these days, I can pretty much expect to see that Dell logo on the front of all of their machines. I can completely understand the view on Apple as well though - seeing as they have an incredible share of the MP3 market. And that is not even mentioning all of the design, marketing, and movie studio clients that they appeal to. On an interesting note, I recently learned that some movie studios are moving to Athlon machines as opposed to Apple. I believe one of the major studios was Troublemaker - they used AMD machines to make their Spy Kids 3D movie. But I would say they are the exception to the rule, and most are still using Apple.
