eLab eXchange Predicts World of Warcraft Subscriber Growth!

eLab eXchange members were pretty accurate in their prediction of how much World of Warcraft would grow from 2006 to 2007 in terms of subscribers.

Members predicted that the wildly popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game would grow 27% in 2007, compared to 2006. According to Blizzard Entertainment, World of Warcraft reached 10 million members worldwide at the end of 2007.

At the end of 2006, WoW had 8 million members. This amounts to a 25% increase: pretty close to the eLab eXchange prediction of 27%.

Congratulations to eLab eXchange members for once again proving they have a darn good crystal ball!

That’s very crazy!!
How did they do the math for that?

That’s pretty amazing - now if they could just come up with a similar crystal ball for real estate! :)

I am the only human being on Earth that doesn’t know World of Warcraft.

It’s not surprising to hear of this growth. When parents are scared to let their kids go out and play when they are not there to supervise, then the kids end up spending all day online and playing video and computer games. It’s sad to think that just a few years ago, kids were forced to go out and play and now they are forced to stay in. Hello obesity and social disorders. I love the games like Warcraft though I have no time to play. There are time were my brother would lives in Alaska and I will use games like this to spend time together even though we are thousands of miles apart. Making the prediction that these outlets will continue is not impressive BUT a prediction with such accuracy IS impressive. Congrats!

My 10 year old son is IN LOVE with WOW. I’m not suprised that it’s grown to 10 million users. I wish my blog had that many viewers!

Let’s see, 10,000,000 by the end of the year. $15 per subscriber … a lazy $150,000 ,000 a MONTH!

Nice work if you can get it.

Cheers,
Shane

With the younger generation being ultimately hooked with online games, the potential for WarCraft expansion is unlimited ! I think we are entering an era whereby playing games has taken a large part of our lives as opposed to interaction with moral beings. And of course, Blizzard is laughing all the way to the bank !…..

My son is 7 and not doing WOW, but we did just purchase his first online game. The possibilities are just endless.

I would love to know how much of their subscription is pure profit. After the initial development and setup my guess would be the running costs are fairly low.

I can’t believe people are STILL playing that game. I played for an hour and that was enough for me.

#19 Chris Watters on 05.03.08 at 6:37 pm PST

I use to play it back in the day. I like Starcraft more..

The amount of popularity that WoW has gotten is insane. I am friends with several of the people who worked/still work in the help center in Southern California, they all say its a slave shop in the help desk for WoW.
