UCR eLab Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Statement discloses the privacy practices for the UCR eLab Global Panel, and is in compliance with the Institutional Review Board policies of the Office of Research at the University of California, Riverside and follows the best industry practices.

The UCR eLab privacy policy adheres to the following principles:

1) Adoption and implementation of a privacy policy that takes into account consumer anxiety over sharing personal information online.

2) Notice and disclosure of information collection and use practices.

3) Choice and consent, giving users the opportunity to exercise control over their information.

4) Data security and quality and access measures to help protect the security and accuracy of personally identifiable information.

The core of UCR eLab's privacy policy is this: UCR eLab promotes the principles of full disclosure, and opt-in informed consent. Because we want to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy, we are disclosing our information practices in full.

***What personally identifiable information we collect and how we collect it. ***

We collect aggregate information site-wide, including anonymous site stats. We also log domain names and/or IP addresses. We may set cookies on your computer to facilitate your use of online research studies fielded by the UCR eLab, and the UCR Sloan Center Web site. Recent versions of most browsers let you easily see and control cookies. We do not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information. On the UCR eLab Signup Page, you have the option of providing us with your name, email address, and some demographic information. This personal information is only gathered by UCR eLab with your express knowledge and active consent. If you have joined the UCR eLab Panel, you may be contacted to participate in an online experiment or survey. Your informed consent will always be obtained prior to your participation in any experiments or surveys, and all information collected will be subject to this privacy policy.

***How the information is used***

In some cases, we may use the information you give us to tailor your Web experience online in research studies fielded by the UCR eLab and the UCR Sloan Center Web site, generate anonymous statistics, or to contact you via email (e.g. to send you information you may have requested about UCR eLab's activities). The examples of UCR eLab activities for which you can elect to receive information include:

1) surveys and experiments for which you have agreed to participate and have been randomly selected;

2) new UCR eLab services that we develop over time (i.e. a newsletter).

However, you will not actually receive these services unless you choose to do so. In other words, UCR eLab adheres to an opt-in privacy policy.

***Who we share your information with***

UCR eLab does not share your contact information with other third parties without your express permission. If UCR eLab were to seek to share your contact information, for example with academic researchers at other universities, this would only operate on an opt-in basis (i.e. your information will not be shared in this way unless you personally explicitly allow it.)

***What choices are available to you regarding collection, use and distribution of the information***

Our policy is that you may opt out of any use by us of information you have provided to us (and in fact you have to opt in voluntarily for any such use to happen in the first place.) Whenever we email you to participate in an online research study, you will have the option of removing yourself from our panel roster, mailing lists or other databases.

***Your consent to this Agreement***

By joining the UCR eLab Panel, you consent to the collection and use of information by UCR eLab as specified above. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect and how we use it.
