Obama got a lot of attention and funds by
using social media to show constituents how he could help them be heard.
The Inauguration presented the opportunity to push the boundaries of social media. Check out the
3D photo mashup by
CNN and
Microsoft!
And now he's in the
White House...
...and it seems that his momentum is going to be
slowed by a major hurdle:
The White House's technology is in the Stone Age.
That may be an exaggeration, but it will take a good amount of funding to bring everything up to date. Also, more funding is not something so easily found given the state of our current economy.
I can't help but show my geeky side in saying that
Battlestar Galactica survived by being the only ship that still ran on analog signals, for those of you who are similarly addicted to my favorite show.
However, barring an unexpected alien attack, not updating the systems in the White House could severely damage
Barack Obama's image as a technologically-forward president. That'd be a shame, since even
the Pope is on YouTube!
Let's hope he keeps his social media efforts up!
