Attention PR people:

Journalists read blogs. They use facebook. They use Twitter. Not every single journalist, but enough.

I just read a news piece on Yahoo News that compared the public hate to the public love/indifference of the Octomom, Nadya Suleman who had octuplets in California, by comparing the number of people (3,530) who had joined the many Facebook groups against the Octomom vs. the number of people (64) who joined a Facebook group telling people to leave her alone.

If you read the news, you'll notice these social media sites being used as sources for the pulse of America.

After the election, I watched the protests against the passing of Prop. 8 on gay marriage on local channel KCAL and Twittered about it and my tweet showed up on tv as part of an image showing all the people talking about the protest on Twitter.

The internet is the fastest way to get an idea of how the public feels, and news outlets are paying attention.

This is a surprise? My blog has brought me numerous requests from the press for interviews - ranging from the NY Times to the local paper, the Wenatchee World. Journalists want the inside scoop and the blogosphere and twitterverse have it. If I were looking for breaking news I would be listening to Twitter just like I listened to a police scanner.

True, it is common sense to many people and thank you for your input which further proves the post. However, many are still grasping the technology and can not understand the importance of a tool that started out as a platform for personal diaries. It is great to see how your blog has got the media in touch with you.

I also see journalists trolling social media sites looking for folks to interview. I was interviewed for an article on http://www.bankrate.com last weekend (from twitter) and a local journalist was covering a home show and tweeted me that he hoped to see me there so that maybe he could interview me.
