Typically when I buy wine, it's from
France,
Germany,
Australia, Napa, or
Temecula, but South Africa?
Yes, South Africa. I imagine that being a winery in South Africa can be daunting, since it is not well-known for the wine scene, not globally at least. Then again, perhaps they don't know about Temecula over there either.
Anyways,
CNN Money did an article on Stormhoek winery who gained fame by offering wine to bloggers of age. not everyone who got a bottle blogged about the wine, but most did and the resulting buzz increased their sales "sixfold"
Their sales multiplied sixfold.
Can you imagine doing that for your business? When I read the article I thought about how cool it was that all these blogger got wine for free, but I think it couldn't be any other way.
If the winery had given the bottles to these bloggers in exchange for a promise to talk about the wine or with payment for a blog post about the wine, the chatter becomes inauthentic and I'd have to write a post about how the internet hates this winery for
paying for reviews.
Speaking of reviews, I've recenly become a fan of
snooth.com, an awesome online community of wine lovers. Their newsletter is very informative, and currently featuring Spanish Tempranillos. Please let us know about any other good wine resources in the comments!
And by the way, if any winerys out there have some good reisling or muscato lying around, I'm more than happy to take some.
